Darfur Peace & Development Organization

The mission of Darfur Peace and Development Organization, which is a 501 (c ) 3 nonprofit and nonsectarian organization, is to restore reconciliation where conflict exists in the Darfur region of Sudan through humanitarian aid and services to the needy people in the Darfur region, without regard to race, religion, sex or national origin. DPDO is an international organization of persons committed to working with indigenous people in Darfur to overcome hunger and poverty through integrated self-development and relief programs and where possible to encourage conflict resolutions as the preferred method rather than resorting to violence and terror.

DPDO will coordinate its efforts with other responding agencies to ensure non-duplication of efforts. DPDO's mission statement is based on its fundamental view as a non-governmental organization (NGO) that humanitarian aid and relief are one of the instruments that can help to promote security and relative well-being during times of internal or external strife. Omer Ihsas
Omer Ihsas, a renowned singer and songwriter, continues to travel Sudan with his band, named "Messenger of Peace," and is known for his lyrics promoting peace, unity, and reconciliation among all Sudanese. In 2005 Ihsas was invited to compose original music for the film All About Darfur directed by Taghreed Elsanhouri. Ihsas was born in Nyala, South Darfur, and now sings about transcending division in Darfur and embracing peace. However, he makes clear his message is for Sudan and chooses to identify himself as 'Sudanese' rather than specifically 'Darfurian' in order to avoid emphasis on the separations within Sudanese society. He notes this mentality and focus as nationalistic and inclusive. Ihsas' songs in the early 1990s reflected his foresight into the impending crisis that would come to Darfur without efforts among all tribes to unify and mend divisions. Omer Ihsas continues to travel and perform across Sudan and in many other African countries.
